It’s asking a great deal that things should appeal to your reason as well as your sense of the aesthetic. — W. Somerset Maugham (1874-1965)

“My work is complicated.”

December 18th, 2011 by Elisabeth

I have been sincerely trying to get out and meet people who are not involved with sex work and obviously, that is going to cause some challenges during the “getting to know you” phase. The main problem I’m running into is when people ask me what I do for a living. Finally, when a female looked me in the eyes yesterday and asked me what I do … I looked back at her and answered, “My work is complicated”. This seemed to satisfy her.During discussions about this, I’ve always been impressed when women don’t bat an eye and just say that they’re involved with sex work. But I feel that often causes some really negative reactions. My work IS complicated but I’m still out there trying to figure out how to present myself in the best light as we all do when trying to forge new friendships. It’s difficult!Or rather, complicated! :)
